It's an increasingly familiar phenomenon: a feel-good discussion about big data analytics morphs into a good old-fashioned disagreement about data governance. In the blink of an eye, the context shifts from talk about infographics and natural language processing (NLP) to data lineage and “sanctioned” or trusted sources of information.

It happened again this month in downtown Austin, at a forum convened by Radiant Advisors, a business intelligence (BI) advisory and research firm. This time around there were a few new wrinkles.
